In 1952, cars that could hit a top speed of 115 mph were uncommon. Cars that could cruise at 100 mph with 4 occupants (and luggage) were unheard of — until the R-Type Continental. With a top speed of 120 mph, The R-Type Continental was not only the Fastest 4-seater car in the world in 1952, but also the most expensive. The R-Type Continental created a template For Bentley grand touring that endures today. It even inspired the design team working on the first Continental GT, 50 years later. By the time production ended in 1955, 208 R-Type Continentals had been built. All but 15 of them were bodied by H.J. Mulliner.
