Manchester City has won the dispute with the Premier League over the APT (Associated Party Transactions) rules. City, which initiated a legal battle against the regulations earlier this year, stated that the APT rules had been found to be unlawful. The eight-time Premier League champion stated that two deals with Etihad and the First Abu Dhabi Bank were 'unfairly blocked'. The Premier League, however, also won its recent legal battle, stating that the court 'confirmed the general objectives, framework, and decision-making of the APT system'. The league added that the court had dismissed most of City's challenges and that the panel had found the APT rules to be necessary. The APT rules are intended to ensure that transactions with companies connected to club owners are conducted at a fair market value. The panel agreed with City's claim that it is 'anti-competitive' to exclude shareholder loans from the APT rules and called for a change to the rules introduced earlier this year. City also claims that the panel found the APT rules to be 'structurally unfair' and that the league had made its decisions in a 'procedurally unfair' manner. The judgment, which comes independently of the 115 allegations against City for alleged financial breaches, will be discussed by the Premier League clubs next week.
