Metallica issued a cease-and-desist order to the Pentagon after a video featuring Fox News host Pete Hegseth using their hit 'Enter Sandman' without permission. In the clip, Hegseth was seen advocating for the expansion of Trump administration's military drone strikes while the soundtrack to Metallica's 1991 cult song played. A Pentagon spokesperson confirmed that X, formerly Twitter, flagged the copyright issue and demanded the video's removal. Metallica's spokesperson told Billboard that the use of their music was 'absolutely not authorized.' The two-minute video, shot in front of the Pentagon, shows a drone delivering a memo that Hegseth signs while praising the dismantling of 'bureaucratic hurdles.' The Department of Defense quickly uploaded a version of the video without music. Metallica joins a long list of artists who have spoken out against Donald Trump's unauthorized use of their songs at rallies and events.
