Longest painting in North America shown in Minnesota museum depicts world whaling voyage
Curators at the Minnesota Marine Art Museum in Winona recently spoke to reporters about a massive painting depicting a whaling voyage first displayed in 1848. Called 'The Grand Panorama of a Whaling Voyage 'Round the World', the painting is 1,275 feet long and is considered the longest painting in North America. The museum is only able to show one section of it at a time on a set of huge rollers.
