The iconic Iron Throne from the HBO series "Game of Thrones" was sold at an auction hosted by Heritage Auctions for $1.49 million. Fans bid on memorabilia from the series, including 900 costumes, props, armor, swords, weapons, and jewelry. The most coveted item was the famous Iron Throne, a popular object from the eight seasons of the series. After a six-minute bidding war, it was sold for $1.49 million. The throne sold at the auction is a plastic replica of the original version from the series. It was molded after the original and then embellished with metallic paint and jewel decorations. Heritage Auctions announced that $21.1 million was raised at the event from 4,500 bids, making it the company's second-highest-grossing entertainment event. "These are extraordinary treasures created by Emmy-winning costume designers and prop masters who tirelessly worked to adapt George R.R. Martin's wonderful novels... People wanted a piece of the magic of 'Game of Thrones'," said Joe Maddalena, Executive Vice President of Heritage.
