“With Topsy Küppers, Vienna loses a defining figure of cultural and social life. She was much more than a celebrated artist - she was a moral voice of this city,” said Vienna's Mayor Dr. Michael Ludwig. “In her programs, she combined entertainment with attitude, lightness with seriousness, humor with humanism. For decades, she not only enriched Vienna's cabaret scene but also decisively shaped it. Vienna bows before a great artist and Viennese. My condolences go to her family and all who were close to her.” “She was a fighter against antisemitism, misogyny, and forgetting,” added Culture Councillor Veronica Kaup-Hasler. “With wit, elegance, and clarity, she co-shaped the cultural life of this city for decades. Her courage to take a stand and her unmistakable stage presence will be missed.” Topsy Küppers was awarded, among other things, the Golden Merit Badge of the State of Vienna and the Cultural Award of the City of Vienna.
