Hundreds of retirees demonstrate in Paris against government pension plans
"At this stage, we do not have any clear guarantee that pensions will actually be pegged," says Sophie Binet, General Secretary of the CGT trade union. A few hundred retirees march in Paris to protest against the French government's policies, which could - if the government pushes through with cost-saving, decoupling measures - directly impact the pensions of around 10 million retiree. "These protests primarily call for the scrapping of the pension decoupling measures that the government wants to implement. As a result, the Prime Minister has been forced to start backtracking under the pressure of the protests.
