Household Tip: Kitchen Roll - Practical but Risky

Source: VIDEOELEPHANT (Glomex)

Kitchen roll is a handy household aid for quickly absorbing liquids or cleaning surfaces. However, its use also poses environmental and health risks, and it should not be used in all scenarios. Kitchen roll can release harmful chemicals, so it is better to avoid prolonged contact of moist or liquid foods with kitchen paper. The rough texture can also scratch sensitive surfaces. For example, a camera lens is very delicate, and the texture of kitchen paper can cause scratches. It is also better not to clean eyeglasses with kitchen paper. "When wiping eyeglasses with paper towels [...] the finest, initially invisible scratches can occur, as paper towels pick up the superficial dirt from the eyeglasses, which then rubs on the lenses" - Sarah Köster from the Central Association of Opticians and Optometrists in response to t-online. Köster recommends cleaning them instead with individually packaged glasses cleaning cloths as they contain a special cleaning lotion. Alternative cleaning methods and materials such as cotton cloths are recommended to minimize environmental damage.
