World Blood Donor Day: Why Blood Donation is so Important and Who Qualifies as a Donor

On Friday is World Blood Donor Day. Only about three percent of Germans donate blood regularly. However, 15,000 blood donations are needed daily for medical care. Many people only care about this when they or their loved ones need blood transfusions. SAT.1 REGIONAL spoke with Susanne von Rabenau from the German Red Cross about the current situation, when blood transfusions are actually needed, who qualifies as a donor, and how such a blood donation generally works.
