Consumer Deception Revealed: Quality Loss in Popular Fruit Juice

The Consumer Center Hamburg has named 'Granini Trinkgenuss Orange' the 'Deceptive Packaging of the Month'. Instead of 100 percent, the fruit juice now contains only 50 percent orange juice, the rest is sugar water. The change is hardly visible externally, but the quality and vitamin C content have suffered. The price per quantity of fruit juice has effectively doubled. Granini, the company behind the product, emphasizes, however, that this is a response to high raw material prices and low crop yields to maintain stable prices. However, the Consumer Center views this critically: the selling price has already increased, and the consumer pays more for less quality. A clear case of skimpflation, where less is offered for the money. Granini argues that additional sugar is necessary to maintain the taste, even though there were its own goals for sugar reduction.
