The bird flu continues to spread in Germany. And although there is still no general mandatory housing order for birds in Bavaria, the Tiergarten Nuremberg is taking extensive precautionary measures. After particularly susceptible bird species such as cranes were already housed last week, now all nearly 50 bird species, including birds of prey, penguins, and emus, are being housed in barns or covered aviaries. This is to prevent contact with bird droppings from the air. The Tiergarten is also temporarily suspending its function as a rescue center for birds of prey, owls, and storks.
