Harvest in full swing: Why increased risk of accidents on roads now

Source: AGRARHEUTE (Glomex)

The corn harvest is in full swing nationwide - and that means: increased risk of accidents on rural and federal roads. Wide agricultural machinery is currently on the move in many places, often on narrow stretches or in town passages. Drivers should be particularly careful here and keep a sufficient distance. In addition, harvesting vehicles often drag soil and maize chaff onto the road. This quickly becomes slippery, especially in wet conditions - driving too fast risks an accident. The police remind: Such roads must be secured and cleaned, but for everyone - foot off the gas and eyes open. Cargo securing also plays a major role. Falling harvest goods can be dangerous for following vehicles. And last but not least: Watch out for wildlife crossing! Due to the harvest, animals like wild boars are startled and suddenly run onto the road. So special attention is required during the harvest season. Consideration and adapted speed ensure that everyone arrives safely at their destination.
