The new Honda Civic Type R - Lightweight and highly rigid chassis - for unique driving characteristics

Source: AUTOMOTOTV (Glomex)

Chassis, steering and suspension of the new Civic offer a high level of dynamics and feedback in all driving situations. A special focus has been placed on steering precision, direct feedback and superior handling characteristics, which intensifies the bond between driver and vehicle - and is further enhanced in the new Type R. In addition to the longer wheelbase (+35 mm compared to the previous Type R) and multi-link rear suspension carried over from the regular Civic, the new Type R has a significantly wider rear track, which increases stability in corners. This has been confirmed and refined by repeated tests on the Autobahn and Nürburgring. The dual-axle front suspension, a configuration designed to minimize steering torque, features new lower control arms whose optimized shape and stiffness contribute to the 16 percent increase in camber stiffness. The front suspension geometry has also been revised in the millimeter range to accommodate the 265/30 R19 Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires and the engine's higher torque. The adaptive damper system has been carried over from the previous generation but features revised roll and pitch control.
