As part of its European market LCV strategy, Nissan today unveiled the all-new Nissan Townstar range of compact light commercial vehicles. The Townstar will replace the NV250 and e-NV200 in the line-up. Additionally, the Interstar and Primastar (previously NV400 and NV300, respectively), fill out the streamlined LCV model offerings. Building on the success of the Nissan e-NV200, a pioneer and leader in the electric LCV market, the fully electric version of the all-new Townstar, available in van and passenger versions, is optimized to meet customer needs. With a 44 kWh battery featuring an intelligent energy management system and battery thermal cooling, the electric model will offer a range of 285 km (pending homologation under WLTP combine cycle) and 245 Nm of torque. Coupled with advanced technologies and low running costs, the fully electric model offers an efficient, sustainable mobility solution. A refined gasoline engine option will be also available in van and passenger versions. The 1.3-liter unit is fully compliant with the latest Euro 6d-Full emissions regulations and produces 130 PS and 240 Nm of torque, offering power and efficiency in equal measure. As an important vehicle in Nissan’s LCV line-up in the European market, the Townstar is the latest to be introduced under the Nissan NEXT transformation plan, which prioritizes sustainable growth and profitability across the company’s global operations. Launch timing of the all-new Townstar (both gasoline and EV versions) to be disclosed at a later date.
The new Bugatti Chiron Super Sport Design
Bugatti developed a new vehicle design with optimized aerodynamics for the Chiron Super Sport’s streamlined bodywork. The new Chiron Super Sport is an uncompromising reincarnation of the Bugatti design mantra, ‘form follows performance’. From the front splitter to the rear diffuser, every centimeter of its skin is designed for top speed. At speeds over 420 km/h, a vehicle must offer sufficient downforce alongside minimal drag. “Our aim was to give the vehicle a neutral setup at its top speed while also giving it as streamlined a shape as possible.” explains Frank Heyl, Deputy Design Director at Bugatti. The uplift forces exerted on the bodywork at 440 km/h are immense. The body of the Chiron Super Sport generates massive downforce to counter this uplift and perfectly balance the forces. “The design process was therefore in particular about achieving aerodynamic efficiency,” Heyl continues. The Chiron Super Sport’s extended rear, which is known as a long tail, gives it new proportions and very distinctive aesthetics. An optional, new, horizontal color split visually extends the proportions of the Chiron Super Sport even further, making the hyper sports car appear even lower.
The BMW Group is launching production of battery components at its plants in Leipzig and Regensburg and expanding its e-drive production network. It has been less than a year since the decision was made to expand production capacity for e-drives in Germany. BMW Group Plant Leipzig will launch series production of battery modules on Monday, 3 May 2021, while BMW Group Plant Regensburg began coating battery cells for high-voltage batteries in April 2021. High-voltage batteries will also be produced in Regensburg from 2022.
The design of the new Audi RS 3 is even more dynamic and powerful than that of its predecessor. In the front, the wide RS bumper, the redesigned Singleframe with its distinctive honeycomb grille, and the large air intakes give the compact sports car an expressive appearance. From 0 to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds, up to 290 km/h top speed, RS Torque Splitter, semi slicks, and specific RS driving modes – the new Audi RS 3 offers driving dynamics of the highest caliber and the best numbers in its segment. Equipped with a 294 kW (400 PS) five-cylinder, the high-performance engine delivers rapid acceleration with a highly intoxicating sound. The power unit now delivers 500 Nm of torque and responds even faster. Visually, the RS 3 demonstrates its sporty DNA with a widened body, RS sports exhaust system, and cockpit displays like those found in race cars.
