Floodwaters in the Sri Lankan capital Colombo were receding on Wednesday after major flooding over the weekend, but residents were still unable to return home without a thorough clean-up, officials said. Last week's storm has brought heavy rains across the island, triggering flash floods and landslides that have killed at least 465 people. IMAGES

The pro-EU candidate and mayor of Warsaw Rafal Trzaskowski and his supporters are delighted to announce the exit poll results for the second round of the Polish presidential election. The pro-EU candidate and his nationalist rival came out neck and neck in the second round of the election, according to an exit poll, with only a tiny gap between them to determine the winner. Trzaskowski is credited with 50.3 percent of the vote, against 49.7 percent for the nationalist historian Karol Nawrocki, according to the Ipsos poll, which has a margin of error of 2 percentage points.
