Renovation of Pegnitz bridges taking longer: Works more complex than previously thought

The renovation of the Pegnitz bridges between Hersbruck and Pegnitz is taking significantly longer than planned. The works on the 18 bridges are more complex than previously thought. According to Deutsche Bahn, the route is expected to remain closed until the middle of next year. Originally, completion was planned for February 2026. Currently, over 60 replacement buses are operating between Pegnitz and Hersbruck. The closure is due to damage to several bridges, which have been under repair since September 19 and are intended to be renewed in the long term.
