Tourist fined for touching endangered sea turtle in Brazil

In Fernando de Noronha, Brazil, a tourist was fined GBP 1,370 on October 15, 2025, after posting a video of herself and her children touching an endangered sea turtle while snorkelling. The Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation issued the fine for violating wildlife protection laws. Officials reminded visitors that contact with marine species can cause stress and alter their natural behaviour.
