Three members of the 'Rust' crew have settled their lawsuit over the 2021 on-set shooting that resulted in the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and injury to director Joel Souza. A joint court filing confirmed the case had been settled, but the terms of the settlement were not disclosed. The shooting in October 2021 occurred when Alec Baldwin's revolver discharged during rehearsals. He was told the gun was 'cold' before practicing the draw. Baldwin, assistant director David Halls, and armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed were named in the lawsuit for alleged failure to follow standard safety practices on set. Crew members Ross Addiego, Doran Curtin, and Reese Price sued for negligence and emotional distress, citing unsafe working conditions and inadequate firearm protocols. The crew claimed 'Rust' was shot on a tight budget and the producers ignored basic firearm safety rules on professional film sets. Baldwin was criticized for not adhering to standard firearm safety protocols, including safe muzzle direction and treating the gun as loaded. Gutierrez-Reed was convicted of involuntary manslaughter in 2024 for her role in the fatal shooting. The film 'Rust' was recently released in limited theaters and on-demand platforms.
