Stiko recommends dengue fever vaccination

Source: VIDEOELEPHANT (Glomex)

Dengue fever is an acute infectious disease transmitted by infected female mosquitoes of the genus Aedes, including the yellow fever mosquito and the tiger mosquito. The disease occurs mainly in Southeast Asia, West Africa and Central and South America, but is now found in around 120 countries worldwide. The Stiko has recommended vaccination against the virus; vaccines such as Dengvaxia and Qdenga are available, although the latter is only approved for people aged six and over who have already contracted dengue fever. In Germany, cases have so far only been reported among returnees from risk areas, but smaller outbreaks are possible in some European countries due to climate change. Symptoms are flu-like symptoms such as headaches and aching limbs, often with fever. Severe cases can lead to circulatory and multi-organ failure. Pregnant women and people with a weakened immune system should not be vaccinated.
