A suspicious suitcase was found in Heidelberg's old town early Tuesday afternoon. The suitcase had been placed on the statue "The Newspaper Reader" in the Hauptstrasse, corner of St. Anna-Gasse. The main road between Bismarckplatz and Neugasse was then cordoned off by the police. The shops were vacated. After the arrival of the delaborators from the State Criminal Police Office in Baden-Württemberg, the cordon was extended to Bismarckplatz. This also affected the rnv's rail traffic. At 3:13 p.m. the defuser gave the all-clear - the suitcase was empty. The barriers could then be lifted and tram traffic opened again
