The new Lexus RX - Higher body rigidity

Source: AUTOMOTOTV (Glomex)

The rigidity of the GA-K platform is immediately noticeable in ride and response, reliable and agile handling, and comfort. The vehicle architecture also used for the Lexus NX has been fundamentally revised for use in the RX: For example, the rear section has been completely redesigned - not only to extend the wheelbase, but also to accommodate additional crossmembers and struts for the suspension and increase rigidity. This made it possible to tune the suspension even more precisely - with positive consequences for performance characteristics and ride comfort. A seamless ring frame at the rear also contributes to the higher torsional stiffness. The structural joints were strengthened by additional bonded joints, laser spot welding and other welding methods, and the weld seam was extended by 7.4 meters. The use of high-strength foam in the rear door opening area also provides reinforcement that is as light as it is effective. Like the NX, the RX also features a double-locking system for the hood, which thus contributes significantly to the overall rigidity of the front section in particular. At the same time, noise and vibrations at high speed are minimized.
