Scientists discover at least 30 new species in thriving coral reef off coast of Uruguay

A groundbreaking deep-sea expedition off the coast of Uruguay that ended on September 19 led to the discovery of not just absolutely massive and perfectly healthy coral reef complexes, but also the discovery of at least 30 new species of sea life living within them. Incredibly, the coral primarily comprising the reef, called Desmophyllum pertusum, was recently listed as vulnerable to extinction.
