More than 130 million people in most parts of the United States are warned of dangerous heat, as oppressive conditions prevail across the country. On Sunday, the most extreme temperatures are predicted from Savannah, Georgia, to Virginia Beach, Virginia, where the heat index could rise between 42 and 47 degrees. The Midwest will also become very hot with heat index values of 36 to 44 degrees between Lincoln, Nebraska, and Minneapolis. Major cities like Charleston, West Virginia, and St. Louis, Missouri, are under a heat warning for values between 39 and 44 degrees. Heat warnings also apply to Dallas, Oklahoma City, Indianapolis, Tampa, Little Rock, Kansas City, and Washington, DC, where the heat index could reach 32-43 degrees. Oppressive conditions will expand on Monday and Tuesday affecting cities from Boston to New York with an index of up to 41 degrees. The extreme heat is expected to persist until Wednesday with minimal relief at night. Atlanta, Charlotte, Jacksonville, and Tallahassee are among the areas at highest risk as the dangerous heatwave continues.
