Europe is importing more liquefied natural gas from Russia than ever before. That's according to the Financial Times. According to the report, imports of LNG liquefied natural gas rose by nearly 40 percent in the first nine months of this year, while Russian gas deliveries by pipeline fell to almost zero. Energy expert Anne-Sophie Corbeau warns in the newspaper that Russia's presence in the LNG market gives President Vladimir Putin the opportunity to further weaponize its gas and cause volatile gas prices to skyrocket. He could also stop gas supplies to Europe from one day to the next. Overall, European countries increased their LNG imports by 70 percent to 111 billion cubic meters from January to October 2022, according to the report. Russia supplied 17.8 billion cubic meters of that. The main recipient countries of Russian liquefied natural gas were France, Belgium, Spain and the Netherlands.
