In the new BMW 5 Series, both the standard BMW Live Cockpit Plus and the optional BMW Live Cockpit Professional come with the new BMW 7 operating system, along with a host of extra digital services. In addition to calculating routes and arrival times with remarkable speed and accuracy and updating real-time traffic data at short intervals, the new BMW Maps cloud-based navigation system allows drivers to enter any word when selecting a destination. BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant with extended functionality is now also available in the new BMW 5 Series as a standard equipment. The standard smartphone integration feature is now compatible with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Remote software update is another new feature that allows vehicle functions and additional digital services to be imported to the cloud.

A number of new technologies optimize the precision and control of the chassis in a wide variety of weather and road conditions. The standard electronic damper control (Electronic Control Suspension, ECS) in the GT-line version increases comfort and safety thanks to the continuous damping control. The system reacts to body movements and steering inputs and changes the damping behavior at lightning speed in order to counteract the vehicle's diving, pitching and rolling movements when cornering.
