The winter semester begins: More students at Bavarian universities

Around 68 thousand new students at Bavarian universities – 19.5 percent more than last year. The increase is particularly significant at the universities. About 34 percent more people than last year are starting a degree here. The Bavarian State Office for Statistics attributes this increase to the introduction of the nine-year high school and the resulting larger year groups. However, the situation is different at the universities of applied sciences. Here, the numbers are stagnating or even lower compared to 2025. An estimated 403 thousand people are studying in Bavaria.
