Public Transport in Middle Franconia: How Good is the Connection? Several Districts Lack a Good Basic Service

Source: TVF Fernsehen in Franken Programm GmbH (Glomex)

How well do people in Middle Franconia get from A to B by bus and train? The ÖV Atlas 2026 by Agora Verkehrswende shows clear differences between cities and rural areas. The districts of Fürth, Erlangen-Höchstadt, Nürnberger Land, and Roth reach quality class D. This is considered a good basic service outside major cities. The next stop is about 250 meters away, with a bus running every 30 minutes on weekdays. Ansbach and Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen are in class E, while Neustadt an der Aisch-Bad Windsheim is only in class F. This means that these three districts do not meet the recommended basic service. There are also differences in a nationwide comparison: the difference between public transport connections in cities and rural areas in Bavaria is particularly large. In total, around five million people in the Free State live below quality class D.
