What Actually Happens When You Never Clean Your Coffee Machine?

If you don't clean your coffee machine, it can unknowingly turn into a dangerous breeding ground for harmful pathogens. Health studies show that the dark, warm, and moist interior of a water tank provides the ideal environment for the growth of microorganisms. Uncleaned water tanks often have a higher concentration of yeasts, molds, and coliform bacteria than typical bathroom surfaces. One of the first clear signs of such infestation is a persistent, bitter, or stale taste in your freshly prepared drinks. You should regularly check the tank for a slimy coating, cloudy water, or visible dark spots on the plastic edges. A musty smell - similar to damp cardboard - is another indication that health-hazardous spores have already spread in the machine. Ingesting these hidden microorganisms can lead to unexpected health problems ranging from respiratory issues to gastrointestinal problems. Over time, lime deposits and organic residues cause internal pipes to clog, heating elements to be damaged, and water flow to be impaired. To be on the safe side, you should thoroughly flush your machine once a month with a special descaler or a simple vinegar solution.
