From 2025, Bremen is to be connected to a supra-regional transport network for hydrogen, which will also run through Lower Saxony. Work on this is to begin this year between Hamburg and Bremen. According to the Deutsche Presse-Agentur, this was said by Anke Alvermann-Schuler, manager of the long-distance network operator Gasunie Deutschland. Gasunie is building the Hyperlink transport system, which will connect Germany with neighboring countries such as the Netherlands and Denmark. Hyperlink is to transport hydrogen to customers. Industry needs the gas on a large scale for steel production, among other things. Hydrogen can also be used for fuel cells in cars, commercial vehicles and aircraft. According to Alvermann-Schuler, talks are already underway with the Bremen steel mill, but no contract has yet been signed. In Lower Saxony, Hyperlink is to be connected to important industrial sites such as Salzgitter and Wolfsburg. A connection to North Rhine-Westphalia is also planned. Source: IMAGO / Panthermedia
