At pilgrimage in Malsch: Motorist loses control and hits pilgrim - victim seriously injured

Malsch / Rhein-Neckar-Kreis (ots) At the police emergency call received on Sunday morning around shortly before 11:00 several emergency calls regarding a traffic accident with personal injury in the area of Letzenbergstraße in Malsch. The 86-year-old driver of a Daimler-Benz, a visitor to a pilgrimage event, was driving along Letzenbergstraße in the direction of the chapel there when he lost control of his car, presumably due to an operating error. In the further course it came to a collision with a 81-year-old pedestrian, who was seriously injured by it. After the accident-causing vehicle made its way through several bushes and trees, it finally came to a standstill in an adjacent wooded area. After initial medical treatment on site, the 81-year-old was seriously injured and taken by rescue helicopter to a nearby hospital. The 80-year-old female passenger as well as the person who caused the accident were uninjured. The Daimler-Benz was a total loss of about 15,000 euros. Following the accident, the vehicle was no longer roadworthy and had to be towed away. The accident was recorded by officers of the Mannheim traffic service.
