The new Honda Civic Type R - Structural safety

The Civic Type R also benefits from the new structural components developed for the regular Civic, which increase front, rear and side impact protection and overall passive safety. Honda has implemented a network of interconnected structures to increase both torsional and bending stiffness. At the front of the vehicle, a strong ring-shaped frame provides a more efficient front bulkhead connection structure. The same applies to the rear area, where a second annular partition braces the rear of the vehicle. These are connected by a highly rigid lattice frame structure along the floor, which is connected to a shock-mounted center tunnel. The stiffer body not only improves the vehicle's dynamic properties, but also comfort and safety: noise and vibration (NVH) transmission to the interior is reduced, and the floor is more resistant to deformation in the event of a collision.
