The new Mercedes-Benz E-Class - the exterior design

The new E-Class combines tradition and modernity: on the one hand, the model series continues the long model history of the classic E-Class, while on the other hand, its new appearance builds a bridge to the avant-garde trendsetters from Mercedes-EQ. The new E-Class has the proportions of a classic three-box sedan: the short front overhang and long engine hood are followed by the passenger cabin, which is set well back. The passenger compartment is generously dimensioned, which is also due to the wheelbase being two centimeters longer than that of the predecessor (2,961 millimeters). The cab-backward design is rounded off by the balanced rear overhang. The E-Class claims its status among other things via the so-called prestige dimension, i.e. the distance from the front axle to the windshield. Nevertheless, sportiness has not been sacrificed: Powerdomes accentuate the hood. The flowing C-pillar has a dynamic effect. The new E-Class is characterized by a wide track (front/rear: 1,634/1,648 mm) and up to 21-inch wheels flush with the outside. The two separate character lines on the side emphasize the car's sporty character. This accentuates the intricately designed surfaces. In keeping with the design philosophy of "Sensual Clarity," the design team modeled a 3D sculpture with a special play of light. Chrome trim is discreetly and stylishly placed.
