Correct teeth brushing keeps teeth and gums healthy and prevents diseases, but most of us do it wrong. A Swedish study found that only one in ten people use the best tooth brushing technique. Here are the best methods for brushing teeth. The most important spot when brushing teeth is the gum line, where microbes can penetrate the gum tissue, so you should use the Bass technique. Start a two-minute timer and tilt the brush at a 45-degree angle to the tooth surface, brushing the upper row upwards and the lower row downwards. Then make small, vibrating movements at the gum line back and forth and repeat this on the outside and inside of your teeth. For children or people with limited dexterity, the Fones technique is recommended, where brushing is done at a 90-degree angle and in circular motions. For all methods, it is recommended to brush teeth twice a day for two minutes each, but only a quarter of us adhere to this duration.
