It's not a good year for the plum, and the late frost is to blame. The State Institute for Viticulture and Horticulture - LWG for short - expects 30 to 40 percent less harvest this year than in previous years. Currently, the first early plum varieties are already being picked in Franconia. The main varieties will be ripe by mid-July. Due to the heavy rain and a mild winter, many fruits are even two weeks ahead of schedule. However, many small plums have already frozen due to the late frost in April. In addition, the demand has also decreased. Therefore, the LWG is planning an image campaign for the blue fruits, for example by offering more plum dishes in Franconian restaurants.
