The new Fiat Grande Panda Hybrid has a turbo engine under the hood that produces 74 kW (101 hp) from 1.2 liters of displacement. The three-cylinder T-Gen3 generation engine operates on the so-called Miller cycle: the special control of the intake valves, which close earlier than in conventional engines, reduces fuel consumption and thus CO2 emissions. The turbo petrol engine is combined with a mild hybrid system. Its electric motor delivers an additional 21 kW and is powered by a 48-volt lithium-ion battery. The system is integrated into the six-speed dual-clutch transmission (eDCT) specially developed for electric drives, which transfers the engine power to the front wheels. The eDCT transmission further increases efficiency and offers a relaxed two-pedal driving experience that embodies FIAT's Easy Drive philosophy. The additional electric power increases the pulling power of the combustion engine at low speeds and during acceleration. It also ensures smooth and quiet starting as well as responsive, automatic gear changes. The battery is charged exclusively by energy recovery (recuperation) during deceleration.
