Verdi warning strikes in retail | Focus on Kaufland and Lidl

The Verdi trade union has called on retail and wholesale employees to go on warning strikes shortly before Easter and, according to its own information, will be targeting the Lidl and Kaufland supermarket chains in particular on Maundy Thursday. According to a Verdi spokesperson, strikes have been called at several hundred Schwarz Group companies nationwide, to which the two chains belong. A Kaufland spokeswoman said of the warning strikes: "The stores are open as normal and are being supplied. Consumers can shop as usual." Collective bargaining for the approximately five million employees in the retail sector has made little progress for months.
