Audi will bring a store for apps into selected models with the third-generation modular infotainment system (MIB 3) from summer 2023. By embedding the store, which was developed jointly with Volkswagen's software unit CARIAD and its partner Harman Ignite, customers will be able to access popular third-party apps directly and intuitively via the multimedia interface (MMI) using a data connection in the vehicle. The selected apps are installed directly in the Audi's MMI system - without a detour via a smartphone. Audi is driving forward the digitalization of the vehicle and integrating a native store for apps in selected models. The technical basis for this is an extension of the familiar MIB 3 with an additional electronic component: a dedicated hardware module, roughly the shape of a USB stick, is equipped with an open-source operating system and thus enables access to third-party apps in the vehicle. The new store gives customers access to a wide range of apps that can be loaded directly into the MMI independently of the smartphone. Applications from the following categories are available at launch: Music, Video, Gaming, Navigation, Parking & Charging, Productivity, Weather and News Services. The "Music" category includes apps such as Amazon music or Spotify, for example. The store will be constantly expanded in the future. It can be selected via a separate tile in the MMI. The additional apps are then seamlessly integrated into the MMI and can therefore be used safely and reliably even while driving. The app portfolio is designed specifically for each market.
