The new Honda Civic Type R - Tailored Michelin tires

To improve the handling of front-engine, front-wheel-drive high-performance vehicles, Honda and Michelin have developed a custom tire to withstand the high load on the front axle during high-performance driving. The key point here was to keep the tire's performance characteristics stable in the high-load range and to be able to optimally control the load transmission. After the tire width was increased to 265 mm, various tire compounds were tested and combined for each tread block. Michelin's C3M manufacturing process significantly improved dry grip without compromising wet performance or wear characteristics. The interior of the tire features a "corrugated" belt structure that matches the block shape of the tire. It reduces the distance between the belt and the contact patch, providing more grip for the moving tread blocks.
