The Mercedes-AMG CLE Coupé - in-line six-cylinder engine with integrated starter generator and electric auxiliary compressor

The new CLE 53 4MATIC+ features a comprehensively upgraded version of the 3.0-liter M 256 in-line six-cylinder turbo engine. The version of the high-performance unit, now known as the M 256M, is particularly impressive thanks to its optimized combustion chambers with redesigned intake and exhaust ports, new piston rings, optimized injection and a new turbocharger. In conjunction with the likewise new electric auxiliary compressor (eZV), this offers an increase in boost pressure of 0.4 bar to 1.5 bar. This results in a higher torque of 560 Nm in continuous operation and 600 Nm in overboost for up to 12 seconds. More decisive than the absolute torque, however, is the improved torque build-up and the modified response behavior of the engine. The revised electric auxiliary compressor is responsible for this. It can now be operated almost continuously over a longer period of time. This is particularly noticeable at medium engine speeds. This has enabled the exhaust gas turbocharger to be made larger in order to achieve a higher peak output.
