Gazprom threatens to further curtail gas supplies

Russian energy giant Gazprom is threatening to further curtail already reduced transit supplies through Ukraine. Gazprom accuses the state of illegally withholding part of the gas. Ukraine had not forwarded 52.5 million cubic meters of Russian gas destined for the neighboring republic of Moldova. If nothing changes, the transit, from which EU countries also benefit, will be reduced in the future by the daily amount withheld. The Ukrainian gas network operator rejected the accusations and assured that the state-owned company complies with all transit obligations. Despite the Russian war of aggression, Ukraine has transported around 15.6 billion cubic meters of Russian natural gas to the west since February 24 - more than ten percent of it to Moldova, according to its own figures. In May, however, natural gas transit via the Russian-occupied Luhansk region was suspended. Kiev and Moscow accused each other of being responsible for this. Instead of the possible maximum volume of 109 million cubic meters, a little more than 40 million cubic meters flow daily from Russia into Ukraine and further west.
