Carlos Alcaraz defeated Jannik Sinner in four sets to win the US Open and his sixth Grand Slam title. Alcaraz won with 6:2, 3:6, 6:1, and 6:4 at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, ending Sinner's 65-week reign at the top of the world rankings. The new world number 1 immediately broke Sinner's serve in the first game of the match and allowed him only three points on his own serve in the first set. However, Alcaraz then dropped his level slightly, which Sinner took advantage of: he secured the crucial break in the fourth game and leveled the match. In the third set, Alcaraz regained his form, broke Sinner's serve early, and later achieved another break to take a 2:1 lead. The Spaniard did not relinquish his lead, breaking Sinner's serve for the fifth time and then serving for the match win - his second US Open title. Alcaraz, the second youngest player in history to win six Grand Slam titles, has evenly split the last eight Majors with Sinner. The 22-year-old now leads 2:1 against his rival in Grand Slam finals, having defeated Sinner at the French Open earlier this year before the Italian got his revenge in Wimbledon in July.
