The US Capitol Police are investigating after a US flag with a swastika was discovered in an office of Republican Congressman Dave Taylor from Ohio. A photo published by Politico shows an altered US flag with red and white stripes arranged to form a swastika, the symbol of Nazism. The flag was apparently visible on a partition of a workplace behind Angelo Elia, an employee of Taylor, during a virtual meeting. Whether Elia is connected to the display is unclear. Taylor suspected it could be "sabotage or vandalism," condemned the display, and described it as "an abhorrent and deeply inappropriate symbol" that his office is now investigating. "The content of this image in no way reflects the values or standards of my office, my team, or myself, and I condemn it in the strongest terms," Taylor stated in a statement to the Cincinnati Enquirer. He added that upon learning of the incident, he "immediately ordered a comprehensive investigation in collaboration with the Capitol Police, which is still ongoing." The discovery comes shortly after a Politico report on a Telegram group where young Republican leaders made racist remarks, used profanity, and mocked the Holocaust. The leaked chat sparked nationwide outrage. Several participants were urged to resign, and at least one job offer was rescinded.
