The new Civic Type R offers a comprehensive package of advanced safety systems, including the latest enhancements to Honda SENSING assistance technologies already featured on the regular Civic. With these groundbreaking safety features, Honda is taking the next step toward its ambitious goal of reducing traffic fatalities in crashes involving Honda automobiles and motorcycles to zero by 2050. As with the Civic e:HEV, the Civic Type R uses four sonar sensors each at the front and rear, which use sound wave reflection to detect non-metallic objects such as glass and walls much more reliably and accurately than the millimeter wave radar previously used. Added to this is a new wide-angle front camera with a 100-degree field of view and improved detection technology that reliably detects pedestrians, lane markings, boundaries and other vehicles including motorcycles and bicycles. A new high-speed processor chip improves system detection, performance and control, and ensures Honda SENSING can detect objects earlier and more accurately than conventional millimeter radar systems, including pedestrians in bright and dark environments.
