The characteristic features of the BMW 3 Series also include the great variety in the drive portfolio. Highly efficient combustion engines with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology and electrification in the form of plug-in hybrid and 48-volt mild hybrid technology ensure an exemplary balance between driving pleasure and fuel consumption. There are three plug-in hybrid models to choose from for the new BMW 3 Series Sedan and four for the new BMW 3 Series Touring. Four petrol and four diesel engines each with four and six cylinders are also available. This also includes a four-cylinder petrol engine in which a manifold integrated into the cylinder head and a further developed charging system ensure optimized power delivery. The top of the range is marked by two BMW Performance models from BMW M GmbH with particularly sporty characteristics. In this way, the BMW 3 Series covers a performance spectrum from 110 kW/150 hp to 275 kW/374 hp. Mild hybrid technology helps the in-line six-cylinder petrol engine and the four diesel drives to deliver particularly spontaneous power delivery and increased efficiency. In the new BMW 3 Series, all engines are combined with an 8-speed Steptronic transmission as standard. Its sporty characteristics are underscored by shift paddles on the steering wheel, which are also fitted as standard. An 8-speed Steptronic sports transmission is optionally available, which is characterized by particularly high shift dynamics, offers a launch control function for traction-optimized acceleration from a standing start and also supports particularly rapid intermediate sprints with the sprint function
