Following the successful market launch of the SUV KUSHAQ, ŠKODA AUTO is expanding its range in India with a notchback sedan in the A0 segment. Like the KUSHAQ, the SLAVIA also uses the MQB-A0-IN version of the modular transverse matrix from the Volkswagen Group, which ŠKODA AUTO specially adapted for India. On this basis, the sedan offers extensive safety equipment, modern infotainment and two powerful and efficient TSI engines with 85 kW (115 hp) or 110 kW (150 hp). Most of the development took place in the technology center in Pune, India. Together with the ŠKODA KUSHAQ SUV, the new ŠKODA SLAVIA creates the conditions to contribute to the fulfillment of the Volkswagen Group's growth plans in India. The Volkswagen Group is investing a total of one billion euros in the INDIA 2.0 project in order to sustainably strengthen the presence of ŠKODA and Volkswagen on the Indian market. The aim is to increase the combined market share of ŠKODA and Volkswagen to five percent by 2025, depending on market and segment development. For ŠKODA, India would thus become one of the five largest individual markets in the world. The model name builds a bridge between India and the Czech Republic and is a homage to the company founders Václav Laurin and Václav Klement. From 1896 they designed and sold their own bicycle models in Mladá Boleslav under the name SLAVIA, before the first motorcycles followed in 1899. At the beginning of the 20th century, the name SLAVIA stood for characteristics such as reliability, affordability and inventiveness, which are still central components of the ŠKODA brand philosophy today
