The first series-produced BMW i4 left the BMW Group Plant Munich today. This means that from now on, vehicles with all drive variants will be rolling off the same assembly line at the company's main plant. "The start-up of the BMW i4 is a milestone for this plant and its team on the road to e-mobility," said Board Member for Production Milan Nedeljković: "As early as 2023, more than half of all vehicles from Munich will have an electrified drive. The vast majority of these will have fully electric engines. Munich will therefore become fully electric." Producing the all-electric BMW i4 within the existing structures of the nearly 100-year-old plant presented special challenges in the extensive conversion and installation work. "We managed to integrate the vehicle into our existing production system during an ongoing production run. Our employees as well as our partners did an outstanding job here," added Peter Weber, head of the BMW Group plant in Munich. Existing equipment was removed, new equipment was installed, and existing equipment was converted in a very confined space. "A prime example of an intelligent and efficient integration effort has been achieved in our body shop. There, the majority of the new manufacturing processes required for the BMW i4 can be represented in existing production facilities," explained Peter Weber.
