Speaking to CNN Greece and to journalist Christos Gavalas and in light of the ageing population globally, Harvard Medical School professor David Grabowski says he is in favor of a model that will take care of people at home but also and in long-term care facilities that are resident-directed.
"We have to re-imagine what a long-term care structure should be like, in order to move from these huge structures with 100-120 beds to smaller home models. I am thinking of a long-term care structure for 8-12 people, which looks much more like a house, oriented to the residents who live there, in fact it would be like their home", he said, a few weeks after published EU studies showed that in 2070 in Greece, one in three people will be at least 65 years old.
