Walldorf: A roof fire early Sunday morning in Walldorf caused considerable property damage and a firefighter was slightly injured. At around 01:30 a.m., the fire department was called to a roof truss fire in Bahnhofstraße. When the first firefighters arrived, the roof truss was already fully ablaze, with flames shooting meters high into the night sky. Fortunately, the two residents who noticed the fire were able to escape outside unharmed. The affected house is no longer habitable, as the roof truss is completely burnt out and the flames had already spread to the second floor. Frank Eck from the Walldorf fire department: "The family will definitely not be able to spend Christmas in this house". The fire departments from Walldorf, Wiesloch and Schwetzingen were on site with a total of 90 firefighters to tackle the blaze. During the operation, one firefighter was slightly injured when he was hit by falling debris. According to current investigations, the fire was caused by a technical defect in the attic area. The damage to property is estimated at 250,000 euros. The police have begun investigating the cause of the fire.
