Mercedes-Benz has been carrying out crash tests at the Group's new Technology Center for Vehicle Safety in Sindelfingen since 2016. The test center is one of the largest and most modern in the world. It has three highly flexible crash lanes. They lead into a large, column-free, over 8,000 square meter (90 m x 90 m) corner area. The capacity is also impressive: Mercedes-Benz carries out up to 900 crash tests and 1,700 sled tests every year in Sindelfingen alone. The brand with the three-pointed star has more than 60 years of experience with crash tests. Together with the analyses of the Group's own accident research, they form the basis for the safety philosophy of "Real-life Safety". Founded in 1969, the accident research department investigates road accidents involving modern Mercedes-Benz vehicles. The aim is to understand how accidents occur and which protection systems can prevent them as far as possible or mitigate their consequences.
