A heat pump - also known from domestic engineering - transports heat from a low to a higher temperature level. In this way, "cold heats", which are particularly common in electric vehicles, can be tapped for heating the interior. Thanks to the heat pump, the system works very efficiently: the waste heat from the electric drive (inverter and e-motor) and the high-voltage battery can be used to heat the interior. This enormously reduces the need for battery power for heating and increases the range.
